SD Sheep Growers Association

The SDSGA provides outreach in three key areas. Sheep production/education, wool, and new producer/youth mentorship.

Mentoring new producers and youth is the key to our future sheep industry. The American Sheep Industry Association believes strongly in mentoring and beginning shepherd support, youth education, hands on participation with sheep production skills, and cost sharing with state associations on new and expanded sheep production education.  The SDSGA received $1,000 to mentor beginning sheep producers in our state.  You can view the report here.

In FY2023, the South Dakota Sheep Growers Association was awarded $8,795 in Wool Outreach Funds from the American Sheep Industry Association to perform wool related activities, projects, demonstrations, and educational events.  Subsequently, each year SDSGA accepts applications for wool outreach projects/proposals for wool related activities in South Dakota.

The SDSGA has a very active Facebook page that provides sheep production and education to the public.  Also, SDSGA has a strong connection to the SDSU Extension Sheep Program.  Extension specialist provide many of the outreach programs at SDSGA activities.
